32 dead, 53 injured in blast

At least 32 people have been confirmed dead in an explosion which hit a market in Yola, Adamawa State on Thursday, June 4, 2015.

The explosive device was left in a tricycle in the Jimeta Modern Market before being detonated.

Officials say most of the victims were roadside food vendors, meat sellers and fruit sellers.

"We have evacuated 32 bodies, we are taking them to two hospitals," a Red Cross ambulance driver, who chose to remain anonymous, told Reuters.

The casualty figure has also been confirmed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Coordinator in the state, Saad Bello.

Bello also said that 53 persons have been left injured by the attack, which is believed to be the work of terrorist sect Boko Haram.

The sect has intensified attacks in the North-East in recent times with Maiduguri, Borno State suffering the greatest hit from frequent invasions and bombings.
