Governor says Bayelsa can only pay half salaries for now

The government said the state’s resources have been dwindling, making it impossible to pay staff.

According to Dickson, this is because of the activities of militants in the Niger Delta region.

Dickson made this revelation, in a meeting with members of the Elder’s Forum in the state capital, Yenagoa.

Dickson said “In the area of public service, I appeal to the elders to be part of the discussions by engaging civil servants from their localities to accept the ongoing payment pattern as government at this point cannot pay full salaries.

“Some of the major challenges our government is facing is dwindling revenue and security. We call for collaboration to ensure law and order in all the local government areas in the state.”

According to Punch, Bayelsa state civil servants have been receiving half salaries since February 2016.

On Friday, September 23, 2016, Dr Rachael Dickson, wife of Bayelsa State Governor, gave birth to four babies.
