Senate President urges military to beef up security in IDPs camps

The statement was in reaction to the suicide bombing in an IDPs camp in Dikwa, Borno, where scores of persons including women and children were reportedly killed.

Saraki, in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr Yusuph Olaniyonu, condemned the recent attacks in IDPs’ camps by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The statement was in reaction to the suicide bombing in an IDPs camp in Dikwa, Borno, where scores of persons including women and children were reportedly killed.

While sympathising with victims of the attack, the Senate President in the statement advised security forces to step up intelligence gathering activities in order to prevent future attacks on defenceless citizens.

"My heart goes out to those that lost their lives and loved ones in this tragic event of Tuesday in IDPs' camp in Dikwa, Borno, the statement quotes Saraki as saying.

"We cannot continue to live in the fear and agony of insurgency in our father land.

"The government is doing its best and likewise, our security forces are working hard and we sincerely acknowledge their efforts so far.

"We can feel the positive impact and effects; but as a country, we need to do more."Our call goes to the world powers to come to our aid; we need help regarding terrorism,’’ it said.

It called on Nigerians to collaborate with the Federal Government in its efforts to eliminate terrorism by relaying relevant information to security agencies spearheading the fight against terrorism.
