IG asks FG for more money

Arase gave various examples where the funds given to the force where not in line with the budgetary proposal submitted.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase

The IG of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, in a meeting with members of the House of Reps Committee on Police Affairs, said the force cannot meet most of its needs due to funds.

Arase said “The money that is released to the police cannot even buy stationery for all the police formations in the country.”

He gave various examples where the funds given to the force where not in line with the budgetary proposal submitted.

According to Punch Newspapers, Arase said "In 2010, the police made a recurrent proposal of N45bn, out of which it got only N16bn."

'Also in 2013, the IG said while the proposal was N56bn, the budget office only released N7bn.'

“We are now left with a combined capital liabilities of about N54bn.

“These are part of the funding challenges that we are currently confronted with, Mr. Chairman.”

Also talking on counter-insurgency operations, the police boss told the committee, that he lost 4,900 policemen, adding that 56 police stations were also destroyed.
