The deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) may have made another entry into Europe as a Czech Republic tour guide has been hospitalised in Prague, on the suspicion of having the virus.

Czech Health Minister, Svatopluk Nemecek told public Czech Television that "the man spent about a week in and returned to the Czech Republic on May 29."

He further said that he went on a coach trip as a guide and got sick, at which point he was taken to a specialised Prague hospital and diagnosed with a fever after a medical check.

He added that the results of lab tests on the patient would be available at about 1400 GMT today (Friday).

According to Nemecek, about 30 people who were on the bus with the guide were put in quarantine.

About 1,300 people have been infected with MERS around the world, mostly in Saudi Arabia, and more than 400 have died since the virus first emerged in 2012, having spread to 26 countries.

Last month, a 65-year-old German man died from the deadly MERS virus after contracting the disease during a trip to Abu Dhabi.
