Last month, South Korea recorded its first case of the deadly Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) after a businessman complained of fever after returning from a business trip to Saudi Arabia.

Since then, 9 people have died from the disease, while the total number of cases have risen to 122 and over 2,800 people have been quarantined.

Several countries have since issued a travel ban on South Korea, with Hong Kong's travel industry council cancelling 600 tour groups to South Korea, affecting about 12,000 travellers.

Meanwhile, over 2,500 schools across the country were closed at a point although the health ministry is considering re-opening them.

While some quarters have blamed the government's handling of the outbreak, the government is currently working with relevant stakeholders to bring the situation under control.
