They said that they had neither been sleeping with their two eyes closed, nor conducting their normal businesses for fear of attack.

The residents of Uke in Karu Local Government area of Nasarawa state, have appealed to the police in the area to increase security surveillance in order to curtail incessant attacks by armed robbers in the area.

The residents made the appeal while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Uke.

A resident of the area, Blessing Maizane, described their situation as 'very desperate'.

“A stringent measure need to be adopted by the police to check the criminal activities of the hoodlums

“The Division within the community needs to be responding quickly to cases of theft and house breaking," she said.

She also called on the people of the area to be secuty conscious and report suspicious movement of any persons to security agents.

Mr. Emmanuel Tabah, another resident, stressed the need for security agents to redoubled their efforts in addressing the problem.

“The incessant armed robbery attacks on this community, had created fears and panic in our people and affected economic activities negatively.

“We are appealing to the police to increase surveillance in order to ensure the protection of lives and property,"

Reacting to the complaints of incessant armed robbery attacks in Keffi Zone, the Keffi Zonal Area Police Commander, ACP Shehu Abdullahi, said that police were doing their best in ensuring the protection of lives and property in the zone and the state at large.

“It is not true that police do not respond to calls in cases of armed robbery and other crimes.

"I do go out at night to supervise our officers on patrol and ensure that the lives and property of people are protected," he said.
