New cases of Cholera confirmed

This was disclosed today, February 7, by Alice Nte, a doctor at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

Two new cases of Cholera have been confirmed in Ikuru town in the Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This was disclosed today, February 7, by Alice Nte, a doctor at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

“Our challenge in this locality is the absence of portable water and proper sewage system. Cholera may spread faster in this terrain because of our traditional occupation, feeding habit, and defecation,” Prof Nte said during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

“In the riverside area, we defecate in the river, fish in the same river, eat of the various sea foods from the same water body,” she added.

The medical practitioner urged the government to provide safe water to residents to prevent a further spread of the disease.

She also advised members of the community to boil their water before drinking and wash their hands regularly with soap and water.
