Ghastly accident involving truck claims 7 lives

Seven people have been reported dead in an accident in Ondo involving a truck carrying cement and a wagon.

 

At least seven people were reported to have been killed in a road crash at Igbara Oke on the Ilesa-Akure highway in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday.

The accident involved a truck with number plate, ALK 04 XA, coming from the Akure end of the road and a Toyota space wagon bus marked Lagos KRD 711 AG, which said to be heading towards the Ondo State capital from Lagos.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of truck, loaded with cement, lost control and collided with the space wagon, killing the driver, identified as Sunday Efo, and six other occupants while the truck driver also sustained serious injuries.

The eyewitness added that residents of the area and other commercial drivers on the road made unsuccessful attempts to save the lives of the victims.

Head of Operation of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Mr Adeleye Adegboyega, who confirmed the accident, said the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the State Specialists Hospital, Akure while the injured were taken to the same hospital for treatment
