Alhaji Adebayo Adeola, the community leader, made the call during a visit to the area on Thursday by the African Clean-Up Initiative (ACI).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ACI is a group supporting communities with poor environmental facilities in the state.

Adeola pleaded for support toward the ‘Beyond Waste Project’ to be organised by the NGO to assist in the clean-up of the community scheduled for Sept. 23.

“Orisunmibare is inhabited by Nigerians who have equal right to a good living and healthy conditions.

“But unfortunately, the community is facing many health and social challenges, which hinder its development.

“The community is suffering; please help us in supporting ACI to enable the community to achieve the necessary intervention it requires,’’ Adeola pleaded.

Mr Alex Akhigbe, the Coordinator of ACI, said that the first phase of the Orisunmibare community intervention would address the health and some social needs of basically women and children.

He said that with the anticipated support from individuals and organisations, ACI would be providing items such as treated mosquito nets and the fumigation of the area.

According to the ACI chief, a medical check-up will be carried out on mothers and children in the area.

Akhigbe said that pregnancy kits would be given to the pregnant women, while sanitary towels would be provided for the young girls, including sensitisation on hygiene and donation of raw food items.

“The community is eagerly looking forward to Sept. 23.

“Let us jointly make the day a memorable one for them. Support us, even with N1,000 through our ‘1k4OneNet campaign’ ,’’ he said.

Akhigbe urged the public to join the volunteer group to assist communities with poor environmental conditions, to safeguard lives, especially that of women and children.
