10 dead as suspected Fulani herdsmen slaughter villagers, cut off body parts

Eyewitnesses also alleged that soldiers assigned to protect the area refused to help when they were called upon by the villagers.

According to Punch, a traditional ruler, the Onu Agbenema, Musa Edibo and his wife were also killed by the herdsmen during the attack on Monday, March 19, 2018.

Villagers who spoke on the incident said that many people were slaughtered and their body parts cut off by the attackers.

They also said that the herdsmen came with sophisticated weapons and hid in the bushes.

According to them, the herdsmen opened fire on villagers who were trying to escape from the scene of the attacks.

Soldiers refused to help

Speaking to Punch, a villager said “We were surprised when we approached the soldiers who were stationed at the Guest House at Abejukolo for assistance.

“They refused to act professionally, as they used their vehicle to block us from advancing to the troubled spot to help our people.

“They have razed down Ojuwo Ajomayeigbi, Iyade, Agbenema and Opada villages.

“We want the world to come to our assistance before they exterminate and inherit our land.”

The Kogi police spokesman has said that he has not received any report on the incident yet.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, herdsmen carried out attacks on communities in Dekina and Omala Local Government Areas of Kogi State, leaving 32 people dead.
