The police on Thursday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Fredrick Ikaka, in an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for robbery.

Ikaka is being tried on a one-count charge of armed robbery.

The prosecutor, Sunday Igbigbi, told the court that the accused robbed one Mrs Joy Ogidi of N35,000 and a blackberry cell phone armed with a gun.

He said the offence was committed on Dec. 15, 2014 at Olu Street, Asaba.

Igbigbi said that the offence was punishable under sections (6) (b), 1 (2) (a), of the Robbery and Firearms Act Cap 11 Vol 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Ikaka’s plea was, however, not taken and the Magistrate, Miss Queen Momoh, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until July 20 for further hearing.
