Buhari seeks Senate approval of Sharia Court Grand Kadi

Bukola Saraki read Buhari's letter on the appointment of the Sharia Court Grand Kadi at plenary today.

In a letter to the Senate, President Buhari said the decision was in line with the Section 261 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Senate President, Bukola Saraki read the letter at plenary on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

The Section provides that the appointment of a person to the office of a Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal shall be made by the President on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.

Recall that President Buhari had on March 15, 2017, approved the appointment of Imam as the acting Grand Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
