FG reacts to ex-president's probe over links with Niger Delta Avengers

The federal government has reacted to an alleged discreet investigation on former president Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience.

Goodluck Jonathan, Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Premium Times had reported that a top government source while quoting intelligence reports said some of the oil installations bombed in the Niger Delta had actually been mined before the 2015 general elections, when Jonathan was still in power, by some militants close to him.

“The mining was meant to be a “Plan B should they be removed from . The plan then was to cause confusion if the 2015 presidential election did not go as expected, in favour of the then incumbent,” the source said.

Reacting to the report, the minister of information, Lai Mohammed said he was unaware of the probe on both former president Jonathan and his wife, Patience.

“These allegations have refused to go away and those making the allegations are not backing out. So I will not be surprised if the security agencies show interest in it but I am not aware," the minister said.

Meanwhile, the former Nigerian leader had denied the allegations that he is a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers.
