Ex-President denies involvement in Maina's reinstatement, blames Buhari

Former president Goodluck Jonathan described the claim by the presidency that his loyalists reinstated Maina as ridiculous.

On Wednesday, October 25, Presidential aide, Garba Shehu had said that officials who are still loyal to Jonathan orchestrated Maina's reinstatement.

The former president, who spoke through his media, Ikechukwu Eze, described the claim as laughable.

He said, "It is ridiculous to say that Jonathan’s loyalists brought Maina back into service.  Is it his loyalists that are in government? Somebody who has left office over two years, his loyalists still brought in a fugitive to power? It is laughable.

"Is it his loyalists that also promoted him and made him an acting director from the position of an assistant director?  These are the questions they should answer.

"It is funny. It doesn’t make any sense. Is it Jonathan's men that reinstated him into office, wrote a letter to him and asked him to return to work?

"This was a fugitive that ran away from Jonathan's government and it was Jonathan's men who also put him in office? Someone who ran from the law? It doesn’t make sense."

The ex-pension boss was dismissed in 2013 by the Federal Civil Service Commission following after a recommendation by the Office of the Head of Service.

He was allegedly involved in a massive pension fraud scheme of over N100 billion.

Maina fled the country after the Senate under the leadership of David Mark issued an arrest warrant against him.

However, it currently came to light that he has since been back in the country and reinstated.

President Muhammadu Buhari, therefore, ordered his immediate sack.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed off several of Maina's properties in Abuja as the ex-pension boss is on the run again.
