President meets NNPC boss for Juma'at prayer

The under-fire NNPC boss was with the president for Friday's Juma'at prayer at the Presidential Villa.

The NNPC boss was with the president for Friday's Juma'at prayer with others like Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and the president's Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

According to a report by The Punch, before the prayer session, he was first spotted at the Vice-President's Wing of the Villa before he proceeded to Kyari's office.

Dr. Baru's appearance at the Villa is significant as he's currently under the public glare after Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, made some allegations against him in a recently-leaked letter.

The minister was also involved in a closed door meeting with President Buhari earlier on Friday to discuss the controversial letter that was leaked to the media three days ago.

He arrived at the Presidential Villa around 11:40am to discuss the contents of the letter and left around 12:50pm, as he refused to answer questions about what was said behind closed doors, simply responding, "No comment."

In the letter leaked Kachikwu wrote to the president, who is also the Minister of Petroleum, he said he considered it important to call the attention of the president to his concerns about Baru because they're capable of hindering progress in the petroleum sector.

In the letter dated August 30, 2017, Kachikwu had also complained about how attempts to book an appointment with the president had failed.

On Wednesday, October 4, the Senate set up an ad-hoc committee chaired by former Sokoto state governor, Aliyu Wammako, to investigate Dr. Baru in light of the allegations.
