4 persons who have 'disappeared' under president

A few high profile individuals have just vanished from the scene since May of 2015. Have you seen them?

It often starts with a media trial, plenty of public interest in the individuals and then, silence.

Pin drop silence.

Here are four such cases.

1. Zakzaky

In December of 2015, some devotees of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (otherwise called Shiite sect) led by Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky clashed with soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Soldiers portrayed the incident as attempts by members of the sect to assassinate Army Chief Tukur Buratai who was driving through town when the Shiites mounted their roadblock.

A handful of Shiites reportedly lost their lives during the clash.

Shiite leader Zakzaky was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement after his temple was razed.

No one has heard from Zakzaky again.

2. Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) had stirred secessionist anger against the federal government before and after he was granted bail in April 2017.

However, on September 14, 2017, soldiers stormed Kanu’s home in Umuahia and it would be the last day anyone heard from the eccentric separatist.

There are reports that Kanu has fled to the UK where he still retains a citizenship, but no one has been able to prove that story.

It’s been a month now and Kanu remains missing.

3. Dasuki

Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki has been kept in jail since 2015 over an alleged mismanagement of defence funds amounting to over $2.1B.

He’s had a couple of court appearances and has been denied bail a couple of times, but it’s been eons since anyone last saw him in the flesh.

He was supposed to appear in court today to testify in the case of former PDP spokesperson Olisa Metuh, but according to sundry reports, he turned down the subpoena.

4. Maina

Famously referred to as the ‘pension thief’, Abdulrasheed Maina was controversially reinstated to the federal civil service after he was fired in 2013 for defrauding pensioners to the tune of billions of Naira.

After President Buhari fired him on October 23, Maina disappeared into thin air.

There’s reportedly an INTERPOL led manhunt for him.
