Maiduguri under fresh terrorist attack

Boko Haram insurgents have launched a fresh attack on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Explosions and gunfire were heard as the battle between the terrorists and soldiers began at about 3am today, February 1, AFP reports.

The Boko Haram members reportedly attempted to enter the capital through the Southern suburb of Dalwa but were countered by troops.

“It is the Boko Haram terrorists we are battling with now as you can hear. They wanted to enter through Dalwa. But we are tackling them,” a soldier on the frontline told Premium Times.

“The whole city is in fear. People are afraid of what will happen if Boko Haram defeats the security forces," a resident, Adam Krenuwa told AFP.

Boko Haram insurgents had made an earlier attempt to captureMaiduguri on January 25, but were repelled by soldiers.
