FG rehabilitates 22 female bombers

47 former Boko Haram members and over 300 victims rescued from Sambisa forest are also said to be undergoing rehabilitation.

The Nigerian Federal Government has said that 22 women and girls, who were recruited by Boko Haram to be suicide bombers are currently undergoing a “de-radicalization” programme.

47 former Boko Haram members and over 300 victims rescued from Sambisa Forest are also said to be undergoing rehabilitation.

The details were given to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Head of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Department of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Fatima Akilu and shared via an e-mailed statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina.

According to the statement,  “One of the objectives of the CVE is to reform terrorists and prevent others from joining terrorist organisations and violent sects.”

It also quoted Buhari as saying that “the federal government will continue to do its best to ensure that victims of Boko Haram’s atrocities receive necessary support.”

Akilu is also said to have informed the President that a National Security Corridor Programme had been created to provide a safe route for those who wish to dump their membership of Boko Haram voluntarily.
