21 dead, many wounded as soldiers repel terrorist attack on Bama

More than 20 terrorists were said to have died in the battle on Saturday, March 21, while others escaped with varying degrees of injury.

The Nigerian army authorities have reportedly been informed of an alleged assault on a civilian by one of its own.

Seven soldiers have been confirmed dead and one more wounded after Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack on Bama, Borno State.

This was revealed via a statement released by Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade.

The statement reads:

“An attack by a band of terrorists on parts of Bama was this morning quelled by the Nigerian troops who dealt with them decisively. Over a score of them died while others fled with wounds.”

“Many more of the attacking terrorists also died as the airforce patrol went after the fleeing ones. Pursuit is still ongoing while calm has been restored and troops maintain firm control of Bama town.”

“A Hilux vehicle as well as other equipment and some weapons were captured from the attackers. One soldier died while 7 were wounded while repelling the attack. They have been evacuated from the combat area by air and are already receiving medical attention.”

Bama was recently recovered from Boko Haram after being conquered in September 2014.
