There has been a noticeable increase in the rate of traffic robberies in Lagos state over the last two months.
Police commissioner says traffic robbery is getting better
Despite all evidence that points to the fact that traffic robbery has worsened in Lagos state, the commissioner of Police is saying that the situation is improving.
It has gotten so bad that Lagosians reached out to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to do something about it.
His solution was a promise to buy three helicopters next month, something Lagosians did not respond positively to.
Despite all of this, the commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, is saying that traffic robbery is getting better.
He revealed this at a press briefing at the Lagos command headquarters on Tuesday.
"One of the areas where the government has challenges is the issue of traffic robbery. We will not shy away from the fact that we have had pockets of robbery in traffic in recent times. In a day, I receive about four tweets of traffic robbery. I monitor this personally and I give directions and instructions immediately. When I newly came to Lagos, I used to receive about 10 robbery tweets in a day. It is improving now, and it will continue to improve."
Mr Owoseni also provided solutions to this particular crime.
They included deploying more policemen to traffic prone areas, and arresting hawkers.
Victims of traffic robbery include Tinsel actress, Ireti Doyle.
She suffered a deep wound that that got six stitches.
