"The Purge" series takes place in a future America where every year there is a 12-hour period during which all crime, including murder, is legal.

The upcoming 2016 fiction action horror film which is written and directed by James DeMonaco, is a sequel to 2014 film "The Purge: Anarchy," and a third installment in The Purge series.

The upcoming sequel stars Frank Grillo, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mykelti Williamson, Betty Gabriel, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor, Joseph Julian Soria and Liza Colón-Zayas.

Plot

In 2025, two years after choosing not to kill Warren Grass, the man who killed his son in a drunk-driving accident, police sergeant Leo Barnes becomes head of security for Senator Charlene Roan, the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge after losing her family to sadistic murderers on Purge night 15 years earlier in 2010.

The government secretly opposes Roan's campaign against the Purge, and plot against her to keep her from destroying the Purge. On the night of what could be the final Purge, a betrayal from within the government at the hands of the New Founding Fathers of America forces Barnes and Senator Roan out onto the street where they must fight to survive the night, and come across a group of anti-Purge rebels that support Senator Roan's campaign.

The first movie in franchise "The Purge," earned over $200 million at the worldwide box office. In 2014, "The Purge: Anarchy," which was the second movie in franchise, earned $110.6 million on a budget of $9 million.

Originally set to be released on July 4, 2016, the movie was moved to July 1, 2016, which is on the July 4 weekend.
