Our Village Headmaster - Justus Esiri, Retire Well (A poem)

Deep in the waters of obscurity, Esiri called out,

“Goodmorning”, he sang to Nigeria,

And with arms bare and strained,

He set to work on our many forests’

And birthed a wood, a Nolly-wood.

Our screens saw the sun; life flowed through our homes,

His sacrifice for us, and always.

From afar, Esiri came near to us,

“Village Headmaster” we yelled in rush.

We begged to love, and dared not hate.

Our smiles broke out by his sweat,

And the world seemed not a little bright.

From our hearts, Esiri called to life,

“Goodbye” he silently cried,

Erasing the boundaries of mortality.

He sailed away to sweet immortaliy

And in our hearts he lives anew.

Rest in peace, Justice Esiri,

Village Headmaster, retire well.
