Academy president responds to absence of a black nominee

"Of course I am disappointed. But this is not to take away the greatness of the films nominated," read Cheryl Boone Isaacs' response.

 

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs has reacted to the lack of diversity backlash following the 2016 Oscars nominations announcement.

The 2016 nominations will mark the second year in a row in which no person of color was nominated in any of the four major acting categories.

The announcement led to an outrage on Twitter with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.

Speaking to Deadline, Isaacs said "Of course I am disappointed, but [it is] not to take away the greatness (of the films nominated). This has been a great year in film, it really has across the board. You are never going to know what is going to appear on the sheet of paper until you see it. We have got to speed it up.”

After the 2015 Oscar nominations, the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite also trended on Twitter, which led to  Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs addressing lack of diversity at the Oscars.

Rock, who hosted the awards for the 1st time in 2005, will work alongside Regina Hedlin, the event's new co-producer, who also directed the pilot of his series, 'Everybody Hates Chris.'

The 87th Oscars which was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, took a 16% decline in the ratings.

The upcoming edition is scheduled to hold at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 28, 2016.
