Movie ties record for most Oscar nominations

"La La Land" is nominated for 14 Academy Awards tying the all-time record for most Oscar nominations.

The Damien Chazelle’s musical was nominated in categories including best picture, director, actor, actress, original screenplay, cinematography, costume design, film editing, original score, original song production design, sound editing and sound mixing.

With 14 nominations, "La La Land" joins nominee record-holders "All About Eve" (1950) and "Titanic" (1997).

In their various years of nomination, "All About Eve" won six Oscars while "Titanic" won 10 awards.

"La La Land" stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend, J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt and Finn Wittrock.

Against a production budget of $30 million, the movie has grossed over $85 million worldwide.

"La La Land" set a record for the most including best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Actor for Gosling, Best Actress for Stone, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Original Song ("City of Stars").

"La La Land" also leads the undefined in categories including the Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Best Director and Original Screenplay.

"La La Land" had its world premiere as the Venice Film Festival's opening night film on August 31, 2016, and has since screened at several festivals.

The plot of the movie follows a musician Sebastian, and an aspiring actress Mia, who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles.

Other major Oscars 2017 nominees are "Moonlight" and "Arrival" with eight nominations each.

The awards ceremony which will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 26, will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
