Animation becomes highest grossing domestic film of 2016

A sequel to "Finding Nemo," "Finding Dory" beat "Captain America: Civil War" to become the highest grossing domestic movie of 2016

The movie achieved this with $423 million, beating "Civil War's" $406.2 million. It has also become one of only 24 films ever to reach $400 million domestically.

The animated film which is a sequel to the 2003 film "Finding Nemo" takes place six months after the first film.

In the sequel, Dory suddenly recalls her childhood memories. Remembering something about "the jewel of Monterey, California", accompanied by Nemo and Marlin,she sets out to find her family.

She arrives at the Monterey Marine Life Institute, where she meets Bailey, a white beluga whale; Destiny, a whale shark; and Hank the octopus, who becomes her guide.

"Finding Dory" features the return of Marlin, Nemo, Tank Gang among others, and  introduces new characters like an octopus, sea lions, a beluga whale, among others.

The sequel was directed by Andrew Stanton, and features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton.
