Should celebs flaunt their wealth during these hard times?
As Nigeria's economy worsens Nigeria celebrities should be sensitive and tone down just a little bit.

Well it seems things are changing no thanks to the state of the economy. Yesterday (Thursday, August 4, 2016) the first lady of Nigeria Aisha Buhari was heavily criticized for rocking a Hermes bag allegedly worth N80m.

Normally Nigerians wouldn't care about how much the first lady’s bag costs but like I said we are in lean times and people are grouchy.
With that said is this the right time for Nigerian celebrities to tone down on flashing their wealth? Celebrities have nothing to do with how the economy fares but do they have a responsibility to follow the mood of the country.
In June 2016, Channel 4, a UK TV station, aired a documentary called ‘’ which is about the fabulously wealthy Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
DJ Cuppy (Florence Otedola) was featured in the documentary along with her younger sister Temi Otedola. In the documentary the Otedola sisters spoke about how much was spent at their lavish parties, living in London and getting bored of places such as Dubai and Paris.
Further into the documentary DJ Cuppy revealed that when she is in Lagos she moves around in a bullet proof jeep. When the documentary was released it got a lot of criticisms from Nigerians who felt these billionaires could do something more positive with their money instead of wasting it on frivolous things for their kids.

In July 2015 Don Jazzy and Davido called off their N5m FIFA game bet after several people online told them that they could do something more positive with the money like helping the needy.
In the past Davido has never been one to hide away from showing off his money. In February 2016 he boasted that his Rolex wristwatch could buy 20 cars. Recently the son of a billionaire has toned down and even announced that he has launched his own scholarship program.
As the doom and gloom around Nigeria’s economy continues there is nothing wrong in celebrities in making money and showing that they are rich. It is their money and they can do whatever they want with it but in times like these some sort of sensitivity.
The gap between the rich and poor is extremely wide in Nigeria and a conscious rich person won’t go about unnecessarily flaunting wealth in the midst of poor people.
Celebrities can reflect the mood of the nation by taking the flossing down a notch or two.
