5 most powerful Black female celebs in Hollywood

As the world commemorates the International Women's Day today, March 8, we at pulse.ng are looking into five incredible black women  in entertainment who do not only influence Hollywood but also affect Nigerian stars.

Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Wendy Williams

1.) Oprah Winfrey:

She is best known for her talk show 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,'  which was the highest-rated program of its kind in history and lasted from 1986 to 2011. She's dubbed the "Queen of All Media", she has been ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history and is now North America's first and only Black multi-billionaire.

2.) Beyonce:

This 34-year-old singer, actress and producer rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of R&B girl-group Destiny's Child and managed by her father, Matthew Knowles, the group became one of the world's best-selling gill group of all time. After their split, Beyoncé later released her debut album, Dangerously in Love in 2003, which established her as a solo artist worldwide, earning five Grammy Awards and featured the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles 'Crazy in Love' and 'Baby Boy'. Beyonce has gone ahead to win 20 Grammy Awards and is the most nominated woman in the award's history. In 2015, Forbes magazine also listed her as the most powerful female musician in the world.

3.) Debra L. Lee:

She is a 60-year-old American businesswoman who is currently the Chairman and C.E.O of BET, the parent company for Black Entertainment Television. She is the mother of two. Lee has sat on the board of directors for a number of companies/organizations, including the National Cable & Telecommunications Association the Ad Council, and the National Cable Television Association. Debra Lee is named one of the "100 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment" by The Hollywood Reporter due to her many achievements in her 25-plus year career at BET.

4.) Wendy Williams:

She is an American media personality, actress, comedian author and a daytime talk show host and most famous for 'The Wendy Williams Show'. But before TV, Wendy was a shock jockette on several radio shows. Williams has gained notoriety for her on-air spats with celebrities. She has also written an autobiography and several other books, and has created two product lines: an apparel line with QVC called Adorn by Wendy Williams and a wig line named Wendy Williams Hair World. On July 18, 2014, Williams' 50th birthday, she was honored by the council of Asbury Park with the renaming of a street to Wendy Williams Way.

5.) Shonda Rhymes:

She an African-American TV producer and writer who has more successful TV shows than any other. The 46-year-old is the creator, writer and executive producer of 'Grey's Anatonmy', its spin-off 'Private Practice' and the political thriller, 'Scandal'. Rhimes produced another medical drama series 'Off the Map' which aired on ABC for only one season in 2011. She bounced back as the executive producer of ABC's legal series 'How To Get Away with Murder', which debuted September 25, 2014. Rhimes has won a Golden Globe award and was nominated for three Emmy Awards. She has also won awards from the Writer's Guild of America, Producer's Guild of America, and Director's Guild of America. In May 2007, Rhimes was named one of Time magazine's 100 People Who Help Shape The World
