Singer pays tribute to late husband, René Angélil

The death of Angelil shook the world, with celebrities pouring in their sympathies to the family of the departed, particularly his wife

Celine Dion

Celine Dion performed at her first concert in Las Vegas since the passing of her late husband, René Angélil on January 14, 2016 after a long battle with throat cancer.

Speaking with so much emotion, she idolised his memory in a quote saying, "We were one and nothing has changed. We will always be one,"

The show was ushered in by a montage of pictures and videos of Angelil through the years, along with a quote from his loving wife: "I understood that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him."

The curtains drew open as she stood on the stage in a sparkling black gown decorated with stars.

This was followed by a loud cheer from the crowd before she began with the song, "With One More Look at You," with her voice breaking occassionally.

"Through my life I only had eyes for my husband, who sat out here night after night. People thought that I was looking at him but I didn't need to because every time I closed my eyes, I felt Rene on stage with me — whether he was seated in his seat right there, in the balcony, backstage, or at home with the kids. He's always been on stage with me and nothing will ever change that, she said.

"I trusted him so much that I rarely had the chance to worry about anything.
