The death toll in an attack by Taliban gunmen on a Pakistani air force based early on Friday has risen to 29, a militant spokesman said.

The 13 gunmen were also killed in the attack on Badaber air base, about 10 km (6 miles) south of the northwestern city of Peshawar.

Sixteen of Friday's victims were at morning prayers, and a captain died leading the counter-attack against the raiders, 13 of whom were killed, Major General Asim Bajwa said on Twitter.
