‘Treasury looters will be prosecuted,’ Buhari says

Buhari also said he was satisfied at the amount of stolen funds recovered, adding that Nigerians will soon be told how much the government has gotten back.

President Buhari, during his maiden media chat, on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, said all suspected looters of Nigerian funds, will be prosecuted.

He said “I think we are doing quite well considering the circumstances”, he said.

“We have been lucky to find some documents where public funds were diverted into personal pockets, where Nigerian crude oil was lifted illegally and the proceeds were put into some personal accounts instead of the federal government account and of course we have started going to court.”

The President also said Nigerians are entitled to know the truth about the stolen funds.

Commenting on the insinuations that his government is being selective in the fight against corruption, Mr. President said prosecution can only be based on evidences on the table, adding that he believes in facts.

The President also asked journalists to investigate issues properly.
