Party members head to court to stop Mu'azu's forced resignation

The plaintiff, Tasiu Iliyasu Hussaini and Waziri Amadu, ask the court to restrain the party from dissolving the NWC

A suit has been filed before the Federal Territory High Court in Abuja by two members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to stop alleged plots to force the party’s Chairman Adamu Mu’azu to resign.

Several members and leaders of the PDP have in the past weeks called for the resignation of Mu’azu and other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to quit their position. They have been accused to working against the party in the 2015 general elections.

The plaintiff, Tasiu Iliyasu Hussaini and Waziri Amadu, ask the court to restrain the party from dissolving the NWC or forcing the resignation of its members without recourse to what the party’s constitution stipulates.

A supporting affidavit in the deposition reads in part, “These calls for the dissolution and resignation are against the provisions of our constitution and our collective resolve as members of the 1st defendant (PDP),”

“It is in the interest of all the parties to this action that the constitution of the 1st defendants obeyed to the letter.

“It will be in the interest of justice to grant the reliefs sought in this suit and prevent any violation of the clear and unambiguous provisions of our constitution.”

The defendants in the suit dated May 14, 2015, are the PDP and Mua’zu and other members of the NWC.
