PDP facing lawsuit over N7m advert debt

The publication has issued a deadline of two weeks to the PDP urging it to pay the sum or prepare for litigation.

The New Telegraph newspaper has threatened to sue the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over an unpaid advertisement debt, reports say.

This was disclosed via a petition prepared by the New Telegraph's lawyer, Festus Okoye and addressed to PDP Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu.

The advert was placed by the PDP Presidential Declaration Committee, which was headed by Senator Aniete Okon, before its dissolution.

Okoye said that his client, Ibrahim Musa, the Bureau Chief of New Telegraph in Kaduna State had placed adverts in four newspapers on the instructions of Okey Ikechukwu, a member of the committee.

“Our client has exercised sufficient restraint in relation to the payment for these advertisements and his integrity and the livelihood of some of his colleagues are at stake,” Okoye said in the petition.

“We plead that you use your good offices to ensure that our client is paid to enable him to meet his own commitments to his colleagues and their newspapers. Our client has given us the mandate to use all legal and constitutional means to affirm the integrity of the contract but we feel that we should explore an amicable resolution of this matter,” he added.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, has however said, in response, that he is not aware of any such petition. Mu'azu on the other hand is outside the country receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
