President absent at APC peace meeting

Buhari had summoned the party’s lawmakers upon arrival from Germany due to the crisis caused by the choice of National Assembly leaders.

President Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari was reportedly absent at an All Progressives Congress (APC) peace meeting which he called earlier today, June 9, 2015.

The meeting was slated to begin at 9am but as at 10:56am, the legislators were still waiting for the President.

According to Punch, the meeting ended abruptly after the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

The crisis in the party started after it chose Senator Ahmed Lawan as its sole candidate for the Senate Presidency and Femi Gbajabiamila for the House of Representative Speakership.

This development did not sit well with co-contestants, Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, who were later adopted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saraki was unanimously elected as Senate President by 57 out of 108 Senators.
