Shekau has however denied the allegations via an audio message released in response to ISIS’ announcement.

He also said that he had been deceived by ISIS because he disagreed with its principles.

Shekau pledged Boko Haram’s allegiance to ISIS in March 2015 and a second pledge was made by masked members of the sect in April 2016.
