Benue Governor asks Tsav to resign

The governor accused the commissioner of partisanship, and using his position to attack his office.

Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom goes hard on police IG over herdsmen killings

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr Tarhav Agerzua at a press conference in Makurdi, he challenged the commissioner to resign his position and face off against him on a political platform.

The governor said, "I am calling on Tsav to honourably resign his appointment with the Public Complaint Commission where he is serving as a commissioner in Benue state because he has been using his office to attack Governor Ortom.

"Making spurious allegation against the governor and the kernel of my call is that having been convicted by court of law in the state he should resign immediately and if he chooses not to resign we are sending letter to the national assembly.

"As Ombudsman, he is expected to be fair in all issues before him, but he has chosen to be partisan and we expect him to resign and join politics."

The governor's call was fueled by a recent court judgement where Tsav was ordered to pay N10 million in damages for libel against Abrahams Kwaghngu, the governor's aide.

Tsav has said his lawyer has filed an appeal in court against the ruling, "Our law provides that if a person is not satisfied with the decision of a court of trial, one should appeal to a superior court and that is exactly what we are doing.

"It should be noted that before the judgement was read, governor Ortom and the plaintiff were aware of the judgement."

He termed the ruling a miscarriage of justice and said the governor's attacks will not deter him from speaking out against the government's corruption and injustice.
