Vice-President not happy with EFCC

Recently, a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki was arrested for diverting over $2.1b meant for the purchase of arms for the military.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is not happy with the rate of convictions secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to Punch Newspapers, the Vice-President attributed the development to delays in the court processes.

Osinbajo said this at a seminar  on sections 306 and 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and delay of high profile corruption cases in Nigeria.

He also said “It is a sad truth that of all the high profile cases filed since 2002 when the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) was established and corruption was first actively identified then by the President, Olusegun Obasanjo, as the number one monster devouring Nigeria, only about eight high profile cases have been concluded with the prosecution successfully gaining convictions from the appropriate courts.”

This is coming at a time when many corruption cases are being charged to court by the EFCC.

Recently, a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki was implicated and arrested for diverting over $2.1b meant for the purchase of arms for the military.

Highly placed Nigerians have also been arrested, including the owner of DAAR Communications PLC, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who has since been charged to court.
