Acting President breaks silence over eviction threat against Igbos

The Acting President is reaching out to major stakeholders to resolve the crisis.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo

The threat was issued on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 by the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY), advising Igbos living in the northern region of the country to leave before October 1, 2017.

In a series of tweets on his Twitter handle (@akandeoj), Osinbajo's Senior Special Assistant-Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande revealed that the Acting President is reaching out to major stakeholders to resolve the crisis.

"AgP Osinbajo will start a series of consultations with Leaders of Thought from the Northern & Eastern regions of the country this afternoon", he first tweeted.

The coalition of 16 different groups, which includes Arewa Citizens Action for Change, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Arewa Youth Development Foundation, Arewa Students Forum and Northern Emancipation Network, promised to execute measures to carry out their declaration.

The statement by the coalition has been met with widespread criticism, including an arrest order from Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai days later.
