OBJ sympathises with Sabon Gari traders

The former President, who also used the occasion to condoled with Ganduje over the death of his mother, prayed God to replenish the victims of the fire diasater.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday commiserated with victims of the Sabon Gari market fire incident which razed over 3,800 shops in Kano state.

He made the remark when he paid a sympathy visit to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the Government House, Kano.

He described the incident as "very unfortunate, considering the monumental losses incurred by victims in the inferno.’’

He said "God knows why He allowed things to happen, but let us hope that there will be benefit from this monumental disaster. That is my wish and prayer.

"On behalf of myself, family and close friends who share my sentiment about this country, accept our condolences.’’

Responding, Ganduje said the state government had set up a fund raising committee to collect donations from individuals and organisations to be used in assisting the victims.

He also said that the state government had planned to relocated the traders to enable it to reconstruct the market.

"What has happened is very unfortunate but we have to lay a good foundation to prevent a reccurence,’’ he said.

He commended the former President for the visit, stressing that Obasanjo is man of everybody.
