The Director General, NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, has commended corps members posted to the North Eastern parts of the country for their exemplary patriotism.

Olawumi gave the commendation at the Nigeria Army School of Military Engineers (NASMEs) on Saturday in Makurdi during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Olawumi, who was at NASMEs to witness the closing of a one week preparatory course for NYSC state coordinators, said no corps member currently serving was forced to serve in the North East.
NAN reports that the states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa were considered the theatre of insurgency in the country.

Olawumi said the nation was proud of their services and sacrifices but assured that they were constantly under the surveillance of the security operatives in the country to ensure their safety.
Similarly, the state coordinator of the scheme in Benue, Mrs Esther Atamenwan, appealed to communities in the state to show their usual hospitality to incoming corps members to the state.
She said the scheme was expecting 5,000 new corps members to the state and called for cooperation from host communities where the corps members would eventually get posted.
