Force to recruit 10,000 policemen

You will recall that President Buhari earlier gave a directive to the  Police Service  Commission, to recruit more policemen.

The chairman of the  Police Service  Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro.

The chairman of the  Police Service  Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro, has announced that the Nigerian Police force will be recruiting 10,000 policemen.

Okiro said that it was not possible to carry out the recruitment exercise this year, because there was no provision in the 2015 budget for the recruitment.

According to Daily Post,  Okiro said “The exercise was not captured in the 2015 budget, so we could not begin the recruitment immediately, when the directive was given, however, we have worked out modalities for the planned recruitment into the police force.”

He also said “Once things about their payment was put in place we will begin recruitment. We are ready for the exercise.

“The Commission would try to avoid the mistake of 1999 exercise when thieves and armed robbers were recruited and we expect to have better police officers during the exercise, unlike in 1999 recruitment, when we had all sorts of people recruited into the police force.”

The PSC boss also warned Nigerians not to pay any money to anybody or recruitment agency, because the forms will be free.

He also said that the force will carry out a thorough screening of every applicant, to ensure they bring in the best people.
