Three staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have reportedly died in Benue State.

This was revealed on Sunday, March 29, by the Resident Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Istfanus Dafwang.

Dafwang added that one of the ad-hoc staff had died in an accident in her way to her duty post.

“She was being taken by a motorcycle rider to her unit and he was probably over-speeding when the front of the bike apparently pulled off leading to the ghastly accident that claimed her life,” the REC said during a media briefing at the INEC office in Makurdi.

“The other two died Sunday morning in an accident on their way back to Makurdi from Vandeikya where they took part in the conduct of the elections,” he added.

Dafwang however stated that the voting exercise went peacefully in the state.

Collation of results are currently ongoing nationwide and will be announced within 48 hours, according to INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega.
