Okada riders go on machete-wielding rampage

A number of commercial motorcyclists (popularly called Okada riders) disturbed the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood causing panic and fear in the hearts of residents as they flashed machetes.

A number of commercial motorcyclists (popularly called Okada riders) disturbed the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood, today, May 5, 2015, causing panic and fear in the hearts of residents as they flashed machetes.

The Okada riders abandoned their daily duties of commuting residents and visitors, going on a riot in the estate to protest against authorities who have allegedly banned them from commuting within the estate.

Apparently, an officer of the Nigerian Police Force is said to have shot one of the okada riders in the leg following a heated argument with a number of Policemen and the Okada riders situated very close at the Lekki gate junction.

Residents say the Okada Riders have been given an ultimatum to leave the estate but they have been adamant and refused to leave, clearly stating ‘na our place be this’.
