Court sentences Charles Okah to life imprisonment

The trial judge said that the evidence produced by the government connects Okah and his accomplice, Obi Nwabueze to the bombing.

According to Vanguard, the incident which occurred at the Eagle Square, Abuja, killed 12 people.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole, the trial judge said that the evidence produced by the government connects Okah and his accomplice, Obi Nwabueze to the bombing.

Nwabueze was also found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Judge said that he made himself available as a foot soldier to be used for evil works because he wanted to earn some money.

According to the court, “There was evidence that convicted former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Mr. Henry Okah, released funds the defendants used to purchase cars that were used to detonate bombs in Delta State on March 15 and in Abuja on October 1, 2010.”

The court also stated that two of the cars ordered by Henry were wired with explosives and parked at the Eagles Square.

Justice Kolawole said that the defendants failed to prove to the court that they were not involved in the Independence Day Bombing of 2010.

He said “The defendants could not validly explain what the sums of N1.2million and N2million that Henry released to them in 2010, was used for.”

Okah’s attempted suicide

In 2015, Charles Okah tried to jumpfrom the third floor of the Federal Hich Court in Abuja,

Reports say he was quickly stopped from taking his life by security opeartives and lawyers who were present in court.

Henry Okah, brother to Charles and the leader of the Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was also sentenced to 20 years in Jailby the South African court over his alleged role in the Independence Day bombing.
