Legislature solicits aid for victims of rainstorm

Leader of the House, called on government to assist towns and villages affected by rainfall and windstorm.

In a motion, Leader of the House, Alhaji Garba Bello (APC-Yabo), called on government to assist towns and villages affected by rainfall and windstorm in Yabo and Tambuwal Local Government Areas.

In the motion  co-sponsored by Alhaji Mode Sanyinna (APC- Tambuwal East), Bello said security of lives and property was one of the cardinal objectives of any government in a given society.

“Basically, disaster occurs without notice, hence affecting the livelihood of a given area. Therefore, the need to come to their aid becomes imperative."

“Some communities in Yabo and Tambuwal LGA’s woke to rainfall and windstorm disaster, the incident caused serious havoc to some communities in the areas”, Bello said.

The lawmaker added that those mostly affected were Birnin-Ruwa, Rungumi and Binjin-Muza in Yabo LGA and Hiliya, Guraye, Tungar-Hiliya, Gesalodi and Rafin-Shinkafa in Tambuwal LGA.

Bello noted that due to the heavy nature of the windstorm, about 265 people had their houses blown-off or their farm produce destroyed.

“In fact, six people were seriously injured as a result of the downpour. Most of the people in the areas are farmers who need urgent attention to get back to their farmlands”, he said.

The lawmakers adopted the motion unanimously as a matter of urgent importance.

The Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji (APC-Bodinga North), presided over the session.

The Assembly would go on recess from Friday, May 26 to Wednesday June 7, to end the fourth quarter, second session of the 8th Assembly, and to enable members to celebrate Democracy Day.
