We are not owing PSP operators -- Lagos state G

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said that it was not owing any Private Sector Participation (PSP) Operator in the State.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, gave the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He explained that the allegation by waste operators in the state that the state government owed them huge sum of money was not true.

According to him, there is a process to get money from the government and so far, no request to such claims is before his office.

"No PSP Operator is being owed by the State Government.

"All monies owed the operators have been settled by the Government, so PSP Operators should be up and doing in clearing of refuse in the state.

"Any operator found wanting in his area of operation will be removed,’’ the commissioner warned.

Adejare said that the operators should be up and doing and rid the state of refuse.

NAN reports that Mr Olabode Coker, the chairman, Association of Waste Managers (AWAM), had alleged that the State Government owed his members over N40 million as at November 2015.

Coker also identified funding as one of the challenge of the operators, noting that working without been paid hindered their activities in the state.
