3 policemen declared missing after encounter with gunmen

According to the statement, there is intensive manhunt on the gunmen who had encounter with the policemen.

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, September 1, said three of its personnel who exchanged gunshots with some gunmen on Monday morning in Ikorodu Area are missing after the encounter.

The Spokeswoman of the command, DSP Patricia Amadin, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.

The statement appealed to members of the public to volunteer useful information and report cases of persons with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station.

It said that on Aug. 31, seven policemen attached to Owutu Police Division had an encounter attack by suspected armed men believed to be militants.

The statement said that the incident occurred in the Owutu Area of Ikorodu at about 3.a.m., the suspected militants were travelling in a bus at the time of encounter, while policemen were posted on pin-down.

"On sighting the policemen, the suspected militants suddenly opened fire on them. The policemen were however, quick to respond and successfully repelled the unprovoked attack.

"In the heat of the gunfire exchange, the overwhelmed gunmen beat a retreat, having been inflicted with varying degrees of gunshot wounds,’’ the statement said.
