3 policemen die in shootout with oil bunkerers

A source, who could not tell exactly how the incident happened said corpses of the policemen and the tanker driver were just seen hours after the shootings.

A tanker driver and three policemen have were reportedly killed by suspected oil bunkerers at Oguda in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday, May 31.

The Oguda area close to the boundary between Kogi and Edo State is said to be a refuge for bunkerers who siphon petroleum products from the NNPC pipeline.

According an anonymous source, who could not give definitive account of what happened, the police may have engaged the bunkerers in a shootout as sporadic gunshots were heard from the direction where illegal bunkering activities usually take place.

The source said that they only saw corpses of the policemen and the tanker driver hours after the shootings.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Samuel Ogunjemilusi confirmed the killings, saying how the incident happened is unclear but suspects it was the handiwork of bunkerers.

He however solicited for useful information that will enable the police arrest the killers.
