Shiite members shun commission of inquiry

The sect members sad they were not going to get a fair hearing, because most members of the panel were against their movement.

The  members of the sect said they refused to attend the panel, because they have been refused access to the leader, Shiekh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

Punch reports that officers of the Nigerian Army were at the venue of the hearing to answer questions about the clash.

Following the reason given by the Shiite members, the panel chairman, Chairman, Justice Muhammadu Lawal ordered that the whereabouts of El-Zakzaky be located.

He also said “This sitting has to be adjourned till Wednesday because of the absence of one party involved in the inquiry.

“Counsel to the commission, Yusuf Ali (SAN) has been asked to find out the whereabouts of the leader of the Shiites and report back to the commission.

“It is required by law for every party in the clash to be present at all the sittings of the proceedings."

He also asked the Army officers to make sure they attend the sittings on the new date.

You will recall that the Nigerian Army accused members of the Shiite sect of attempting to assassinate the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
