Speaker’s house collapses months after order to stop building

Some of the construction workers, who were working at the site, sustained injuries but no life was lost in the incident.

In a report by Punch Newspaper, about 20 construction workers escaped death at the construction site when it collapsed.

Reported to be a two-storey building, the collapse of the property situated on an estate around Nkpokiti junction at Independence Layout, Enugu, has revealed an order for work to stop in the estate.

It was also reported that sources at the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority said the agency had, in August 2016, gave an order for work to stop in all the buildings on the estate.

However the order was reportedly flouted by most of the owners of the buildings under construction, who are lawmakers.

The collapsed building was one of the houses on an estate said to be allocated to the members of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

The Speaker is yet to comment on the collapse or lost of investment n the construction.
